{"id":3926,"date":"2017-02-01T13:15:32","date_gmt":"2017-02-01T12:15:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.electricsheepmagazine.co.uk\/events\/?p=3926"},"modified":"2017-12-09T13:24:09","modified_gmt":"2017-12-09T12:24:09","slug":"berlinale-2017-preview","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.electricsheepmagazine.co.uk\/events\/2017\/02\/berlinale-2017-preview\/","title":{"rendered":"Berlinale 2017 Preview"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_3927\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3927\" style=\"width: 594px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.electricsheepmagazine.co.uk\/events\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Berlinale-2017.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[3926]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.electricsheepmagazine.co.uk\/events\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Berlinale-2017-594x270.jpg\" alt=\"Berlinale 2017\" width=\"594\" height=\"270\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3927\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.electricsheepmagazine.co.uk\/events\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Berlinale-2017-594x270.jpg 594w, http:\/\/www.electricsheepmagazine.co.uk\/events\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Berlinale-2017-300x137.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.electricsheepmagazine.co.uk\/events\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Berlinale-2017.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 594px) 100vw, 594px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3927\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Berlinale 2017<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"left\">\n<p class=\"caption\">\n<B> Berlin International Film Festival<\/B> <br style=\"line-height: 22px;\"><br \/>\n9 \u2013 19 February 2017 <br style=\"line-height: 22px;\"><br \/>\nBerlin, Germany<br style=\"line-height: 22px;\"><br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/www.berlinale.de\/en\/HomePage.html\" target=\"_blank\" >Berlinale website<\/A>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong><I>The line-up of the 67th Berlin International Film Festival promises a range of excting home-grown films amongst some big hitters and some hidden gems.<\/I><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With 18 competing films out of 24 titles selected for the Competition strand, the 67th edition of the festival promises to be intriguing, fun and hugely exciting.<\/p>\n<p>Opening with Etienne Comar&#8217;s first feature debut <i>Django<\/i>, this year&#8217;s Berlinale starts off moderately it seems, but only to wow critic and audiences alike later in the run with hotly anticipated titles such as Danny Boyle\u2019s <em>Trainspotting <\/em>follow-up, <em>Trainspotting: T2<\/em>, and the world premiere of James Mangold\u2019s <em>Logan<\/em>, the third in the growing &#8216;Wolverine&#8217; franchise, starring Hugh Jackman. <\/p>\n<p>We are particularly looking forward to the new film by Sabu, <i>Mr. Long<\/i> and other promising works by exciting new and established filmmakers such as Argentinian-born Chilean film director Sebasti&aacute;n Lelio (<em>Una Mujer Fant&aacute;stica<\/em>), Romanian film director Calin Peter Netzer (<em>Ana, Mon Amour<\/em>), the much underrated Portugese auteur Teresa Villaverda (<em>Colo<\/em>) and Spanish film director &Aacute;lex de la Iglesia, whose latest offering <em>El bar<\/em> will screen &#8216;out of competition&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>With Andres Veiel  ( <i> Beuys<\/i>), Thomas Arslan (<em>Helle N&auml;chte<\/em>) and Volker Schl&ouml;ndorff (<em>Return To Montauk<\/em>), there are three German directors in Competition this year, while the Austrian actor and comedian Josef Hader will also make his directorial debut at the festival with <em>Wild Mouse<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p>The Panorama and Forum sections are as always packed with titles from around the world, but the one stand out that seems to anchor all is <em>I Am Not Your Negro<\/em> from Raoul Peck, about the writer and civil rights activist James Baldwin. <\/p>\n<p>The Berlin Film Festival\u2019s annual retrospective will be devoted to science fiction films. Focusing on two themes &#8211; \u2018the society of the future\u2019 and \u2018the strange and the other\u2019 &#8211; the sidebar &#8216;Future Imperfect. Science \u00b7 Fiction \u00b7 Film&#8217; will screen a total of 27 international features, including classics, cult films and largely unknown productions from countries including Japan as well as central and European Europe. Among the titles featured will be Richard Fleischer\u2019s 1973 sci-fi <em>Soylent Green<\/em> starring Charlton Heston as a New York detective investigating the murder of a company CEO in a world ravaged by over-population and environmental pollution, along with the first big screen adaptation of George Orwell\u2019s <em>1984<\/em>, George Lucas\u2019 <em>THX 1138<\/em>, Polish Piotr Szulkin\u2019s nuclear holocaust survival picture <em>O-bi, O-ba: The End of Civilization<\/em>, Byron Haskin\u2019s <em>The War Of The Worlds<\/em> and the 1918 Danish silent film <em>A Trip To Mars<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>For the third time, the &#8216;Berlinale Special&#8217; strand will present a selection of TV series in the official programme. Six German and international productions will have their world premieres at the festival this year.
