The selection films presented in Competition this time round reach from high-profile premieres like Wes Anderson\u2019s fantastical new stop-motion animated feature <em>Isle of Dogs<\/em>, which serves as the festival\u2019s opening feature, and Gus Van Sants <em>Don\u2019t Worry, He Won\u2019t Get Far on Foot <\/em>, starring Joaquin Phoenix, Jonah Hill, Rooney Mara, Jack Black, and Udo Kier, to bold new works from always exciting directors such as Christian Petzold (<em>Transit<\/em>), Philip Gr\u00f6ning (<em>My Brother\u2019s Name is Robert and He is an Idiot<\/em>), Laura Bispuri (<em>Figlia mia<\/em>), Lav Diaz (<em>Season of the Devil<\/em>) and Steven Soderbergh (<em>Unsane<\/em>), starring Claire Foy and shot completely on iPhone.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In the Panorama section, we particularly look forward to Wolfgang Fischer\u2019s <em>Styx<\/em>, which &#8211; nearly dialogue-free &#8211; tells the story of a female doctor on a sailing holiday gone unexpectedly sour somewhere between Europe and Africa, Idris Elba\u2019s directorial debut <em>Yardie<\/em>, and <em>In La enfermedad del domingo (Sunday\u2019s Illness)<\/em> about an estranged mother-daughter-relationship which looks mysterious and gorgeously shot judging by the trailer.<\/p>\n<p>Also worth checking out seem the documentaries presented in the Panorama section this year such as Lauren Greenfield\u2019s latest offering <em>Generation Wealth<\/em>, the Chilly Gonzales portrait <em>Shut Up and Play the Piano<\/em> and <em>MATANGI \/ MAYA \/ M.I.A.<\/em> which portrays the controversial star between the labels attached to her by the music and media industries and her self-image as a Sri Lankan resistance artist.<\/p>\n<p>The Berlinale Classics section opens with the premiere of 1923 silent classic <em>The Ancient Law<\/em>, while Wim Wenders\u2019 <em>Wings Of Desire<\/em> and Japanese master Yazujiro Ozu\u2019s <em>Tokyo Twilight<\/em> (1957) will also screen as part of the programme. In addition, Sidney Lumet\u2019s 1964 drama <em>Fail Safe<\/em> details the US government\u2019s attempts to thwart an inadvertent attack on the USSR which would plunge the world into a nuclear war, and Mikhail Kalatozov\u2019s <em>The Cranes Are Flying<\/em> (1957) marks the screen revival of one of Soviet cinema\u2019s first international hits post-World War II.<\/p>\n<p><i><b>Pamela Jahn
