At such a difficult time for cultural organisations and publications, it is great to see that Mute Magazine has relaunched, despite losing 100% of its funding. The Spring-Summer 2011 issue has a great piece by Mute co-founder Pauline Van Mourik Broekman on the funding cuts that have affected so many arts organisations + articles on the portrayal of social struggle in Made in Dagenham and the ‘doomed divas’ of silent Italian cinema, as well as Zaha Hadid architects, Greek rebel music, the ‘rebetiko’, and compositional improvising jazz among many others!
