Cinema this month is all about Baader-Meinhof, with the release of the controversial drama The Baader-Meinhof Complex<\/I><\/A> and the screening of Andres Veiel<\/A>‘s acclaimed 1993 documentary Black Box Germany<\/I> at the German Film Festival on November 30. <\/p>\n

This month also sees the release of one of the year’s best films, the astonishing Israeli animated documentary Waltz with Bashir<\/I><\/A>, which is included in our round-up of the best of the 52nd London Film Festival<\/A>. Also out this month is lo-fi Japanese charmer Fine, Totally Fine<\/I><\/A>, the Chuck Palahniuk adaptation Choke<\/I><\/A> and sharp observer of French social mores Agn\u00c3\u0192\u00c2\u00a8s Jaoui’s Let’s Talk about the Rain<\/I><\/A>.<\/p>\n

In the DVD releases, we have the mighty Joseph Losey Collection<\/A>, Johnnie To’s schizophrenia thriller Mad Detective<\/I><\/A>, and Hitchockian suspense story The Clouded Yellow<\/I><\/A>. And we review Starfish Hotel<\/I><\/A>, a captivating East meets West dark fairy tale, and interview its Welsh-born, Tokyo-based director John Williams<\/A>.<\/p>\n

At this year’s Raindance film festival we were able to interview Peter Greenaway<\/A>, who told us about his multi-media project around Rembrandt’s The Nightwatch<\/I>. Elsewhere we have a feature on Dolly Mixture<\/A>, who were the subject of a film shown at the Barbican’s Pop Mavericks season. And we report from the Colombiage<\/A> festival, which makes us very much look forward to the Discovering Latin America film festival, opening on November 27.<\/p>\n

\nIn the Short Cuts we review the Future Shorts DVD<\/A>. And in the Film Jukebox, indie popsters with an edge Shrag<\/A> tell us about their favourite films.<\/p>\n
