Fortresses: Hidden, black, ancient, high-rise and alternative<\/b><\/p>\n

This month we are proud to present a 35mm screening of Michael Mann\u2019s rare 1983 film The Keep<\/i> in collaboration with Cigarette Burns at the Prince Charles in London on 21 February. This is the occasion for a look at fortresses on film, with reviews of The Keep<\/i><\/a>, Akira Kurosawa\u2019s feudal Japan tale The Hidden Fortress<\/i><\/a> and housing project-set shocker Citadel<\/i><\/a>, an interview with Citadel<\/i> director Ciaran Foy<\/a>, a feature on alternative fortresses<\/a> and a Comic Strip Review of Time Bandits<\/i><\/a>. And we also have a Reel Sounds column on the Tangerine Dream soundtrack to Michael Mann’s Thief<\/i><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Out at the cinema we review classic Hollywood melodrama A Place in the Sun<\/i><\/a>, unique Belgian crime drama Bullhead<\/i><\/a>, supernatural thriller Mama<\/i><\/a>, Brandon Cronenberg\u2019s first feature Antiviral<\/i><\/a> and Pablo Larra\u00ed\u2019s No<\/i><\/a>, which continues the director\u2019s exploration of Chile\u2019s politics and history.<\/p>\n

In home entertainment releases we look at two new Mario Bava Blu-rays, Barbara Steele witch chiller Black Sunday<\/i><\/a> and nightmarish fairy tale Lisa and the Devil<\/i><\/a>, as well as Kaneto Shind\u00f4’s stunning tale of demons, greed and desire Onibaba<\/i><\/a>. In Alter Ego, author Travis Elborough<\/a> is James Mason in The London That Nobody Knows<\/i>.<\/p>\n
