audioSkolimowski and Kinoteka: Celebrating the 14th edition of the Kinoteka festival, this month’s film show includes an interview with Oscar winning producer Jeremy Thomas and director Jerzy Skolimowski about the latter’s work on such films as The Shout, Essential Killing, and his latest movie 11 Minutes, while writer and filmmaker Daniel Bird talks about the late Polish filmmaker Andrzej Żuławski and his translation of the director’s latest film Cosmos.

audioBallard and the Seventies: In March, the Electric Sheep Film Show focuses on J.G. Ballard. Virginie Sélavy talks to his daughter, the artist Fay Ballard, as well as director Harley Cokeliss, who made the first film version of Crash featuring J.G. Ballard for the BBC in 1971, and director Ben Wheatley, who discusses his long-awaited adaptation of High-Rise, which is out on general release in UK cinemas on 18 March 2016.

High-Rise is released in the UK on VOD on 11 July and will be available on DVD + Blu-ray from 18 July 2016.

In a special interview recorded at the Film Museum London earlier this year, 90-year-old legendary British actress Honor Blackman talks about her roles in Goldfinger, Doctor Who and the cult 1960s TV series The Avengers. Also in this show, producer Sean Hogan discusses Future Shock: The Story of 2000AD, a documentary that charts the development of the seminal British comic, while curator Helen Melody gives an insight into the Alice in Wonderland exhibition at the British Library, and the varying adapations of Alice on screen over the years.

Plus an interview with Peter Strickland, director of Berberian Sound Studio and The Duke of Burgundy, about his new ‘3D sound’ adaptation of Nigel Keale’s The Stone Tape for BBC Radio 4.

audioIn this extended first part of the show, Alex Fitch talks to director Richard Stanley and composer Simon Boswell about their legendary 1990 sci-fi tale Hardware, the former’s plans to direct an adaptaion of H.P.Lovecraft’s The Colour out of Space and the latter’s scores for other genre classics such as Sante Sangre and Shallow Grave, while director Jeff Lieberman discusses his 1976 worm horror Squirm during his visit to last year’s Cine-Excess at the University of Brighton.

audio In the second part of the show, Virginie Sélavy talks to Canadian writer Kier-La Janisse about the new anthology book she has edited called Satanic Panic, which explores how the fear of a Satanic conspiracy spread through 1980s pop culture, followed by a round-up of this year’s London Film Festival with film critic and cartoonist Mark Stafford.

Plus an interview with Guy Maddin (recorded at the Berlinale in February 2015), whose latest, The Fobidden Room, is showing at LFF; and an extract from William Fowler’s lecture on guerrilla filmmaker Antony Balch at the Miskatonic Institute of Horror Studies.

audio Alex Fitch talks to Ted Kotcheff, the director of ‘lost’ cult classic Wake in Fright (1971), and to Terry Gilliam, whose new film The Zero Theorem is released this month. Kotcheff explains how Wake in Fright was recovered by its editor, and discusses the way it depicts issues of masculinity in crisis and has an unreliable narrator. Gilliam, in an extract from a 2013 London Film Festival Q&A session, talks about how his new film responds to issues of NSA spying, continues his strand of casting actors against type, and represents a ‘full fat’ viewing experience!

(Recorded at the University of Brighton in conjunction with this year’s Cine-Excess Festival)

Cine-Excess VII is taking place at Birmingham MAC from 15 -17 November 2013, with guests including French filmmaker Catherine Breillat (Romance, Anatomy of Hell) and Italian auteur Francesco Barilli (The Perfume of the Lady in Black, Pensione paura)
